Scope note: Fármacos que se unen selectivamente a los receptores H1 de la histamina, pero sin activarlos, bloqueando así las acciones de la histamina endógena. Entre ellos se encuentran los antihistamínicos clásicos, que antagonizan o impiden la acción de la histamina, principalmente en la hipersensibilidad inmediata. Actúan en los bronquios, los capilares y algunos otros músculos lisos, y se utilizan para prevenir o aliviar la cinetosis, la rinitis estacional y la dermatitis alérgica, así como para inducir somnolencia. No se conocen completamente los efectos del bloqueo de los receptores H1 del sistema nervioso central.
